artist CYNTHIA BELL

Cynthia was born in New York's Spanish Harlem in the 60’s. She is a self-taught artist who expresses her love of color and the beauty of woman  with a paintbrush and a mouse. In the 1960’s Harlem was rich in African American and Latino culture which inspired her to paint.  Although this is the first time Cynthia has shown her work she is looking forward to creating and exploring different mediums in the future.

Cynthia loves painting women because there are so many feelings that hide behind the mask that some women wear. Most of my pieces have closed eyes because for her it expresses peace and knowing or maybe something altogether different.

One of her inspirations is artist Pegge Hopper. Pegge’s love of color and the woman’s form lead Cynthia to identify with her as an artist.

Cynthia says she hopes her work creates a calmness and peace for the viewer and a feeling of being closer to God and his or her own spirituality. The Buddha images I started painting a year ago gave way to my expressions in spirituality and meditation a place that is often hard to find in the world we live in but once you find that peace the light of God shines through. God made me a creative being and I am so grateful He did.
